Hi folks! I finally had some time to post my thoughts on the Suqqu makeup collection for Spring 2017. This collection is designed to be as "graceful and captivating as a flower in full bloom". In my opinion, Suqqu (a Japanese luxury brand and one of my favourites) is becoming far more bold with their colour collections recently - both in terms of colours and finishes, and this is no exception. I think it's exciting and fun to play with! I have two of the items in the collection here to show you...(to see what else is in the collection - check out Rouge Deluxe's post here)
Packaging
All Suqqu packaging is very simple, sleek yet luxurious. It's encased in lightweight, black lacquer with the Suqqu label/logo embossed vertically on the front and reflective gold on the bottom.
Below are the product description labels on the bottom of the eyeshadow palette and blush respectively.
Suqqu Designing Color Eyes Palette in Ayanadeshiko (04)
There are five new colour palettes and one limited edition colour palette in the collection - each inspired by flowers. The one I have here, Ayanadeshiko (new, permanent), is inspired by carnations.
Colours & Finishes
Clockwise from top left of the palette:
- Light beige (shimmer),
- Light to medium rose taupe (shimmer),
- Medium, warm, rose pink (shimmer),
- Medium to dark rosewood (satin).
Swatches
Below are swatches on my medium to tan, olive skin (~NC30) - applied dry without a primer and photographed indoors using a strobe.
Overall, this is a very pink, rose-toned palette - very feminine and romantic, and when used with the deepest shade, can work well in autumn, too. However, I personally find that the palette is a little too pink for my comfort zone (especially the darkest shade), as it can make any redness on the whites of my eyes more apparent and make me look sick or like I've been crying. LOL. So, I recommend using that particular shade to a minimum (as a liner or keeping it below the crease). You will notice that unlike most (if not all) other eye shadow palettes it lacks at least one dark neutral shade! I would have loved to see a brown shade in there to make the palette complete/standalone for travel as it needs a deep brown shade to add a neutral depth of colour and make it more wearable, and brown goes well with pink. But, this palette is clearly all about celebrating colour though! :-) For normal, day wear, I tend to prefer just sticking to the three lighter shades on their own or adding a brown eye shadow for depth and definition. Below, I have it worn (*unlike* my recommendation(!), because I wore it for the first time and really wanted to show off all the shades) [photographed using phone camera under natural lighting].
Pigmentation, Texture and Longevity
Compared to other Suqqu eye shadows I've used in the past (the Suqqu Blend Color Eyeshadows), which are softer in colour and more subdued (yet still sophisticated) in finish, this palette consists of very rich and strong colour pay off. The texture is still very fine and smooth, but perhaps a touch more rich and dense, and not as "light as air" and I think this gives the pigmentation and finish more punch. :) So, the formula is more akin to those found in the western world. I found the longevity on my eyes is superb - lasting all day and night! And, this is on my "normal" skin condition (i.e. neither oily or dry) and without the use of any primer - just the thinnest layer of foundation.
Size
5.6 g. of product. This is slightly more than the older palettes, which would also explain the slightly heavier, denser feel of the powder.
Suqqu Pure Color Blush in Kasaneyamabuki (101)
The pure color blushes in this collection have beautiful gradations and are designed to give "pure colouration and clear radiance". There are two new shades and one limited edition shade in the collection. I have the limited Kasaneyamabuki (101) to show you.
Colours & Finishes
Kasaneyamabuki is a gradation of bright orange to coral colours. You can wear either the two colours separately on their own or mixed together. The lighter orange on its own gives a fresh colour to the cheeks and brightens the complexion, while the darker coral gives a more sun kissed effect. In the pan, you can barely see the ultra fine shimmers, but it has a satin to matte finish when applied and gives the skin a healthy, sun kissed look.
I personally would not wear the lighter orange on its own against my olive skin tone as it can look sickly, but I love the coral on its own and also both colours mixed together. As you may already know, I generally prefer pink blushes on my skin tone, but I'm pleased to say that I would very happily wear these two shades mixed together for every day(!!), especially in spring and summer. It doesn't look muddy on me as most orange-toned blushes tend to - hooray! It doesn't look chalky, flat or powdery. Instead, it looks, fresh, naturally sun kissed, glowing and youthful! Paired with just a "my lips but better, slightly peachy lip", well-groomed, defined brows and mascara - BAM! I have a simple, but fresh-looking face that only takes five minutes to do, if that. Exactly, what a busy, exhausted, mum of toddler needs. ;-)
Swatches
Below are swatches of the coral (left) and orange (right) shades on my medium to tan, olive skin (~NC30) - applied dry without a primer and photographed indoors using a strobe.
Below left is a heavy swatch of both colours mixed together, while on the right is how it looks blended out.
Below, I have worn the blush with both shades mixed together (photographed using phone camera in natural lighting).
Pigmentation, Texture and Longevity
The pigmentation is excellent. I recommend using a brush like a duo-fibre, or the Nars Yachiyo Brush, which is great for depositing just the right amount of strongly pigmented blushes like this one onto the cheeks and blending it out perfectly due to its bristles and tapered shape. The texture is very fine and smooth - not powdery or chalky. I found the blush still remains on for much of the day, but has noticeably faded late in the evening and this is on my current dry/dehydrated skin and no primer or setting spray. So, those with oily skin may need to touch up if you want to continue to wear at night - or apply with primer and/or setting spray.

Overall
Wonderful, bold, cheerful colours in this collection that aptly represents flowers in bloom during spring. This collection is definitely one for lovers of bright colours rather than neutral lovers. I love that it's not all about pastels which is often the inspiration behind spring makeup collections and unfortunately are not wearable for my medium to tan olive skin. Instead, the colours are bright, rich and pigmented and will suit a broader range of skin tones (there are other palettes in the collection as well with lighter colours FYI). You can see from the colour combinations and the campaign images that it celebrates colour and I love that. Although, the eye shadow palettes may result in more editorial looks than every day looks, you can always find a neutral colour in your existing collection to help balance it all out and make it more wearable. :-) For me who has a lot of makeup already (LOL), this is an exciting and fun collection to play with and has dared me to try new colour combinations out of my comfort zone. I'm really loving the blush though and I can see myself wearing this a lot! ^_^ Overall, definitely a collection worth checking out and get you to channel your inner makeup artist! :-P

Usually these are available from Selfridges (they ship internationally), but currently sold out sadly (they may re-stock at some point!), but you may also still be able to access these from other counters listed (with contact numbers) from the Suqqu website.
