In the BLUE Room: Home and Art

It's all about the BLUES today -- wonderful home, art and interior inspiration today, enjoy.

Such a soft and soothing blue wall color...

Mercedes Gómez Pablos

Roofs of Paris, oil and carbon on canvas, 162 x 114 cm, private collection.

An original piece of Flemish tapestry framed in acrylic, colorful Dutch plates, and a rustic vintage bench play up an old-meets-new mix on the way to the kitchen.

Konstantin Yuon

The Blue Bush, 1908, oil on canvas, 71 x 107 cm, Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, Russia.

Konstantin Yuon was a noted Russian painter and theatre designer. He co-founded the Union of Russian Artists and the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia.
He started as an Impressionist landscape and genre painter with a Symbolist note. To the end of his life Yuon became a strict social realism artist.

Michal Bohdankiewicz, Some wanted to live full tilt, 2017, charcoal and oil on canvas, 35 x 35 cm

Los Angeles, CA home of Lauren Weisbarth

A Hamptons-meets-Malibu look is created by combining a small stripe with a large floral pattern in the same cool blue and repeating the two patterns for throw pillows, upholstery, and the room’s statement-making curtains.

Edvard Munch

Kiss by the Window, 1892, oil on canvas, 73 x 92 cm, The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, Oslo.

Munch’s art offers some of the world’s most effective images of emotional states — a veritable international sign language of the soul. The raw blue tones of Kiss by the Windoware full of sensible eroticism. The only illumination is from windows across the way. The couple has retreated behind the curtain and Munch has cropped off much of their bodies. His brushstrokes merge their bodies. Only a small section of the woman’s neck is even visible, she is overwhelmed, almost consumed, by her lover’s embrace. Did Munch mean for us to feel like voyeurs watching this private, intense moment?

Kees Van Dongen

Woman with Blue Eyes, 1908, oil on canvas, Albertina, Vienna.

It is hard not to be intimidated by the penetrating blue eyes of the lady in Kees van Dongen’s Woman with Blue Eyes, which seems to be ready to glare at anyone that comes within sight. The painting is exemplary of a 20th century Fauvist painting, depicting a close-up of a face of a femme fatale wearing makeup with excessive blue eye shadows, bloody red lipstick and a thick layer of peach-colored blusher.
